Hi, I'm Bill Fulmer, of Houma, LA, and my hobbies are radio control flying, photography, and computing, of course.... I am an active member of our local flying club, the Houma Aero Modelers Society (H.A.M.S.) The airplane pictured above is one of my models. It is a Piper "J-3 Cub" and is extensively detailed to replicate the full scale 1941 "J-3 Cub" NC29043 which belonged to my late friend, Gordon "Papa" Cargile of Columbia, SC. I'm sorry to note here that Papa passed away on April 9, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
Our club flies from our field located 5/8 mile off lower Savanne Road on the outskirts of Houma, LA. Heading toward old Hwy. 90 from Houma, on Savanne Road, the shell road to the field is on the left, just past the entrance to South Ellendale Estates Addendum # 1, which is on the right. Please feel free to come visit with us and learn what the fine sport of radio control flying is about..... Just be sure to obey our posted speed limit of 15 MPH.
If you wish to join us, drop me an email by pressing the button below. We have instructors to help you learn to fly. Flying RC is different, but not difficult......
One thing is sure... It's Fun!!!!!
A Tale I Want the World to know.........
You saw the picture of my "Cub" model at the top of the page... A couple of years ago, I was preparing to build the model, and was looking for a subject plane to replicate. A friend had given me a copy of Vintage Airplane, a publication of the E.A.A., and on the back cover was a photo taken at sundown of the prettiest "Cub" I ever saw...
That picture was enough to make me want to copy the plane, but after reading the story in the magazine, I knew that "Cub" NC 29043 had to be replicated in miniature....
It would take a long time to tell the whole story, but suffice to say I contacted the owner of the full scale "Cub", the model was built, and we became fast friends....
But... it's the story of the "Cub", and a dad made of the stuff all dads should be made of, and a son cut from the same stock...... It's the STORY...........
Written by John Baker, of Macon, GA, in 1991, and excerpted here with his kind permission, is the tale of a fine son's love for a fine dad... Click here to read this true story and know why I was so very proud to call Gordon "Papa" Cargile of Columbia, South Carolina, "ma bon ami"........
A few pages on the site I hope you'll enjoy seeing.....
